Destiny Booze – Thriller/Suspense Erotica Romance Author

Hi Destiny – so glad for our time together…and our interview. I’ve been looking forward to it. Before we get started, I’d like to share a little about you…

Destiny Booze grew up at a campground in Virginia where her childhood was full of hard work. There was also an element of excitement as she met a large variety of diverse people with widespread tales about fun and adventure. She grew into a young lady with a very active imagination.

Destiny attended Virginia Western Community College for two years. Her writing career began as a community journalist, yet creative writing was always her passion. In May of 2009, she released her debut romantic suspense novel, Altered Beginnings.

Other titles by Destiny Booze: Predetermined Endings (2009), The Curse of a Mind (2010).

Destiny resides in Botetourt County, Virginia with her husband, son and house full of pets where she strives to be the best wife, mother and writer that she can be. Her family is always priority number one. Other things of great importance to her are friends, and YOU, the readers!

Okay, Destiny…let’s get started…

I went to your website and to your Amazon Page and was impressed by what I saw. You write one heck of a spine-chilling thriller from what I gathered, which is what The Curse of a Mind is, along with spicy romance parts.

So, please tell us how the idea for this book originated ~ all the fun details.

This story spawned from a series of rejections I received from agents. The rejections came so fast that I knew the agent didn’t even read any of my submission. Honestly, that’s totally frustrating! So, right then, I decided that I was going to write something different, something so out of the box that it couldn’t possibly go unnoticed in the publishing industry.

I started with a tough, hardcore female lead and a surprising plot. I added in some eerie scenes from the killer’s point-of-view. I also used the unique voice of the lead character’s autistic brother.  I do believe I came up with something pretty noteworthy, if I do say so myself.

What’s Chris Chambers’ shady past story…can you share an incident or two?

Hmmm...That's tough. Chris's shady past completely molds her to be the tough woman she is. Let's just say Chris has a big secret that will be revealed and you probably won't see it coming. ;)

Chris is a private investigator ~ does she work for herself? If not, with who or for who? What are most of her investigative jobs about ~ who hires her?

Chris is the lead P.I. of Deniro Investigations. She works with a very diverse team of highly skilled professionals on all the cases that no one else will touch.

Tell us about Aiden Wolfe ~ why does Chris and Aiden’s paths cross?

Aiden Wolfe is Chris's new client.

Can you give us an idea of the paranormal aspects of TCOAM? What are the extraordinary gifts of the story?

There are many aspects to the story that I cannot reveal. What I will say is the killer in the story reads minds using a marvel in the medical field known as techlepathy, a combination of technology and telepathy to produce a telepathic result.

What or who inspires or influences your creativity?

I like to start with a character that intrigues me and work from there. I have a very active imagination and it takes off when given permission to do so. I love brainstorming. I will often sit with a blank sheet of paper and a pencil and jot down any thoughts that come to me. When one of those ideas sticks and won't go away, I know it's time to start writing. :)

Is there any tip/s or advice you’d care to share with a fledgling romance author?

Write, write and write. Keep writing. Write some more. The writing craft takes years to develop. I know I'm still developing mine. Don't give up. Learn as much as you can about writing and the industry as a whole and keep at it! Persistence is the key.

What has been the happiest moment in your writing career so far?

The first time I saw my book in print was that moment. Oh my gosh! What a feeling! I just couldn't believe it was real!

The Curse of a Mind  ~ Book blurb:

They can’t win. The perpetrator is using a marvel in the medical field known as techlepathy, a combination of technology and telepathy to produce a telepathic result. He’s reading their minds. How can they possibly get away when he knows their every move?

Chris Chambers is a private investigator with great instincts and a shady past. She works with a skilled team on cases that most P.I.’s won’t touch. She’s hardened to life, hardened to people and as tough as the military trained her to be.

Her team’s newest case is a construction worker by the name of Aidan Wolfe. Aidan is hardheaded and successful, a man with no friends and a long list of enemies. Someone is trying to kill him, someone with extraordinary gifts.

The investigative team and Aidan will be confronted with their worst enemies—themselves. They are cursed to face their own thoughts, inner fears, prejudices, and every private feeling or emotion they have as this man toys with their minds and hearts.

Can they survive? By the end, will they want to?

The Curse of A Mind - Excerpt:

It was dark by the time Chris hung the sheet up, cleaned up dinner, and made out assignments for the next day.

Lucky was outside roaming for his last time of the night. She glanced at her watch—9:12 PM. It had been a long day to say the least. Her typical work schedule during an investigation was 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Getting beat up on the first day had encouraged her to put in extra hours.

She hadn’t seen Aidan or Leon since dinner. She was still in the dog house, and she deserved it, she knew. She had been hard on Aidan, too hard considering he was paying her salary. With the exception of that one slip with Harry Jacobson, she had never talked to a client in that way before. Was she losing control? He made her feel on fire whenever he looked at her. Lashing out at him was her only defense.

“Sabrina and I slept together the night before the wedding.”

If not for years of training, Chris would have jumped out of her skin at the sound of that velvet voice. She had just been thinking about him and there he stood. The living room suddenly felt very small.

Aidan stood by the wall, keeping his arms crossed and his posture lax. “We both wanted her first time to be special and I knew I couldn’t provide that with a ten-minute session before I left after the ceremony. Sabrina wouldn’t have cheated on me. The baby was mine.”

Chris stayed silent, letting him say all he had to say.

“You don’t believe that, do you?”

She honestly didn’t want to hurt him, even if her actions at dinner suggested otherwise. She shook her head no. She figured if she kept her mouth shut, it couldn’t do any damage.

She stared at him for a long time without answering.

“I want to hear it. Maybe the pina-coladas were non-alcoholic. Or maybe she just didn’t know she couldn’t drink because she hadn’t been to the doctor yet. What aren’t you saying?”

She shrugged as she said, “Hunch, mostly. Mr. Hilton talked about that baby as if it were his. He said he was close to Sabrina before you even entered the picture. There’s every chance I’m wrong, but my job is to figure out the whole picture. To see the things you aren’t seeing, part of that is guesswork. I can’t get to point Z without making a few assumptions. I’m trying to help you, Mr. Wolfe. To do that, I need you to be perfectly honest with me. Mr. Hilton had a definite bone to pick with you. Are you still sleeping with Sabrina?”

“No,” Aidan said.

She was more relieved by his answer than was professionally necessary.

“At least not lately.”

Damn. “When?”

“Our anniversary would have been in April. We got together for a drink and…it just happened. It meant nothing.”

Two months ago. Ms. Peterson was in her first trimester. “Then, this baby could be yours.”

He stared at her dumbfounded for a moment. Jeez, was the guy always this dense? She got more specific. “Did you even use protection?”

Double Damn. She wanted to shake this stubborn man and knock some sense into him. He was fooling around with another man’s fiancée and wondered why someone wanted him dead. She hated domestic cases. She also hated the situation because she really hated to think this man still had feelings for his ex-
wife. And she didn’t want to analyze why his love life would bother her.

Leon entered the room with an easy stroll and an easier smile. “Hell Chris, maybe you should just move into this crib. Are you going to leave any time soon?”

Her answer was absorbed by the loud crash of the bay window imploding. Glass flew through the air faster than the noise traveled. The sheet covering the window collapsed to the floor in a ball.

Rachel Firasek ~ Paranormal Erotic Romance Author ~ Interview

Hello Rachel – love your book, as I confirm in our interview. The Last Rising – Curse of the Phoenix series. Thank you for being here today…and for taking time for our interview.

Before we get started I’d like to give everyone a little something about Rachel…

She grew up in the south and despite the gentle pace, she harassed life at full steam. Her curiosity about mythology, human nature, and the chemical imbalance we call love led her to writing. Her stories began with macabre war poems and shifted to enchanted fairytales, before she settled on a blending of the two.

She’s intrigued by anything unexplained and seeks the answers to this crazy thing we call life. You can find her where the heart twists the soul and lights the shadows… or at

Okay, let’s get started…

Oh My Goodness!! I read your first two chapters of The Last Rising and I’m completely hooked. I must have your book. September 6th can’t come soon enough (LOL). Where to start after being “gripped” so completely into your story and characters. Please, tell us where you came up with such an idea ~ Goddess doing the Sun God Osiris’ bidding ~ saving souls. Do tell…

Well, the story started while I paced an airport during a thunderstorm, waiting for our delayed plane to land. That’s where the horrific plane crash idea came from, but the actual Egyptian lore came much later. As I was putting this story idea together and trying to decide what genre I wanted it to fit, I pulled out my trusty oracle cards. I don’t use them to predict the future or to provide insight into my life, but they are awesome story provoking instigators.

I shuffled, ran my hand over my beautiful set and flipped over… the phoenix. Hmmm… a paranormal element that has not been totally overdone. That card flip, led to wiki and the Egyptian god Osiris. If you haven’t researched his story, OMG, you should. It’s heart wrenchingly sad.

Great story how Phoenix began. Give us some insight into Phoenix Ice ~ Goddess. Why is she a Goddess?

Ice, or Isis, was the mother of Egypt in ancient times. She was a peaceful loving mother to her son who was murdered by a wizard that she and Osiris trusted. (Imagine the beautiful conflict there.) So, I started thinking. How would someone that had dedicated her life to people and had lost her husband and child react to the world around her. So, I did what every author did, I took the liberty to finish her story and give her true reactions. In my world she becomes a bitter tyrant that punished everyone around her for her grief. Osiris steps into balance the situation…

Sun God, Osiris, what’s he like?

Gorgeous, of course. I’m thinking a blond, long haired, Eric Northman type. J He’s a pain in the butt to the phoenixes because he refuses to tell them anything and forces them to work through their issues. He’s like their Dr. Phil. I can’t wait to get to his story.

Turner Alcott, survives a tragic event ~ is there a anything you can share about him? We get a quick picture of his relationship to his son and an over-all feeling we want him to survive…and I wonder, why?

Turner is basically your all around good, honest Texan man. He’s corporate America at its finest, but he’s been hurt. The mother to his son did a real number on him and he survived the only way his man-ego would allow. He lit up the world with his charm and playboyed his way through half of Dallas, but that plane ride will change the way he looks at the world.

How much research did you need for The Last Rising? Can you list some of your resources or where you went to find information?

I really only used wiki, I know I should probably site other sources. Lol. I took the base story behind Osiris and Ice and created another. I’m not a great researcher. Non-Fiction bores me to death, so I try to only grab what I need and ignore the rest. And, I live an hour away from Dallas, so I’m fairly sure I know enough about it to bring what I need to life. (History was not my strength in school.)

How well did your characters cooperate, having their story unfold? Did anyone give you a struggle?

Not really. Ice was a bit of a pill. When I first started this story, she came off rather witchy (insert b.) After several attempts, I finally felt like I had her soft enough without changing her character too much. It’s really hard to find the balance when our characters play a different role in our heads.

Is this book the first of a series and if so can you give us some insight on what will follow?

It is the first. The next book is Ari and Grey’s story. Ari is Ice’s best friend and a spark of personality that I love in the first story. Grey is Turner’s best friend and a war hero working through his memories. Ironically, they never meet in The Last Rising. And the last book is Sadie’s story. She’s the only phoenix from America and is the baby in the group. She rough and tumble and has more attitude than anyone person should. She’s the perfect match for a god that thinks he has the right to mess with everyone’s life. ;)

Who or what inspired/ influenced you to write paranormal romance?

I actually didn’t start reading PR until 08 and the first book I grabbed was one of Lyndsay Sands vampire stories. I can’t remember the title, but it wasn’t the first. I then bought every one of her books I could find. I loved the old world feel of the vamps dropped into a funny contemporary story. This led me to Laurell K. Hamilton and she’s the one that sparked the “need” to write. I’ve been at it ever since.

What are you currently working on? Please share a little about it.

I’m currently working on the second book in the series. But, I’m plotting a top secret YA sci-fi that will be very new to me. I haven’t dabbled in either genre, but a story came to me and it won’t go away. After I finish plotting this, I have a thriller PR that is so full of twists and turns, I’m a little scared to start it. Think The Shining without the ghost.

Is there any tip/s or advice you’d care to share with a fledgling romance author?

Keep writing—no matter what. Read craft books, take as many workshops as you can afford and never think that you know everything. I’m always learning and even if/when I sale a best-seller I’ll continue to learn. Learning keeps our stories fresh, our worlds clear, and our hearts pure. Oh, and don’t stop reading the stories you love and write.

What has been the happiest moment in your writing career so far?

My first call was great, but when Entangled invited me to join their troops with a three book contract, I have to say, I cried. I love and respect the staff and Entangled and to have them accept my little story was so exhilarating. Oh, and getting a 4 star rating by RT on my last novel. Those two things topped everything so far. J

Book Description:

After paying two millennia’s penance to Osiris, world-weary Phoenix Ice has had enough. Saving souls without any hope for her own redemption isn’t how she imagined spending eternity. Fed up, she decides her next death will be her last. But when she sacrifices her own life for a sexy Texan in a catastrophic plane crash, she has no idea the consequences will be so great…or that she’ll end up back in his life for her next assignment.

Now that Turner Alcott has survived the worst, finding a wife and mother for his son matters more than ever before. When the mysterious Ice comes into his life, Turner knows she’s the one—but love is the last thing Ice wants. If he wants to win her heart, Turner must teach Ice how to forgive herself, and prove that love is the ultimate sacrifice.

“Why is it I can’t get you out of my mind? You say we haven’t met, but my dreams remember you.”

Oh yeah, he’d dreamt of a woman for months now. She resembled his dream woman in so many ways, but he’d never seen his fantasy lover’s face.

She struggled against his clutch. “Mr. Alcott, I assure you we haven’t met. And for your other question, I don’t know why, but you need to release me.”

Why did that quivering bottom lip make him suspect she was lying? Turner rested his forehead against the top of hers and sucked in her scent. “Please, tell me I’m not losing my mind. Tell me you don’t visit me every night and I’ll promise to leave you alone. I just need to know.”

He sounded like a crazy man but she had to tell him. She was the only one who could put a stop to his mind’s constant fantasizing, and this feeling of déjà vu every time he saw her.

Ice wriggled in his arms, her thighs chafing against his slacks. “Mr. Alcott, you need to let me go.” She glanced around his shoulder. “Brodie is probably staring out that glass window and I would hate for him to get the wrong impression.”

She was right. He needed to get ahold of himself, but he didn’t have the strength to walk away. His hands traveled up and over her shoulders, stalling on her neck. Brushing his thumbs against her jaw, he pressed her head back and stared into hard eyes—no emotion. Couldn’t she see the battle he fought?

He teased the corner of her mouth with his thumb and her breathy gasp pleased him. So, she wasn’t completely immune to him. He dropped his head until his mouth hovered over hers.

“Mr. Alcott—”

“Shhh. I just need a taste of the sunshine.”

Rachel, thanks for today – I’m so glad my place was one of your Bewitching Book Blog Tour stops. Congratulations on your Curse of the Phoenix series. I wish you many, many more successes.

Jolie Pethtel - A Look Inside Her Newest Release Painted Jezebel

Hello Jolie. I’m so excited about this interview…mostly because I’ve read your book and I’m in love with your characters – Finn and Jezebel. BUT, I’m more than delighted to know their story will continue into your next book – I’ll stop here on that because I know it’s one of my questions to you in our interview.

Jolie is a Romance Suspense Author, born in Ohio, but raised in Arizona, where she met her husband Jim. She now lives in Indianapolis, Indiana with her husband and their six rambunctious children. Jolie is a domestic goddess by day and writer by night.

And might I add…conjures up who-done-it stories with a nice twist and a little romance too.

I had the pleasure of reading her book and enjoyed the “who done it” aspect along with the “romance,” but throughout all of it, the banter between hero & heroine reflects humor and fun. Absolute laugh-out-loud moments.

Okay, Jolie, on to the questions…

So tell us – how did the idea come to you for this series (A Jezebel Jinx Mystery)? In particular, why the title, Painted Jezebel?

There are a couple reasons for the title. The obvious one is the main character’s name is Jezebel, but the term ‘painted jezebel’ has two other meanings. It’s a type of butterfly, which she has tattooed on her lower back and it is also an idiom meaning: scheming woman. You’ll definitely see what I mean by scheming woman if you read the book. Sometimes women can be more manipulative and devious than men.

Women more manipulative and devious than men…Hmmm (LOL)

So, who is Jezebel Jinx and what does she do?

She is an agoraphobic Author, who is afraid to leave her house, but has no choice when she’s forced against her will to attend a writer’s conference to promote her new book.

Who is Finn MacKenzie to Jezebel Jinx? Can you share the first meeting of Jezebel & Finn?

When Jezebel first sees Finn she thinks he’s a stripper her friend and editor, Jules, sent for her birthday, but in reality he is her new publicist. He’s there to escort her to a writer’s conference, which obviously she can’t do in her condition, so he’s forced to kidnap her. Sparks fly between them from then on out.

Oh boy – do they ever. Some of the best dialogue banter between those two, and sometimes actions speak louder than words.

Okay – give us a little background on Constance – who is she? What kind of person is she?

Constance is Finn’s ex-lover, as well as an author for another publishing house in competition with Jezebel’s own. She is not a nice person. She’s a man eater and she has no shame about taking what she wants, whether it’s hers or not.

Can you explain a little bit about why Jezebel believes she’s cursed?

She believes she’s jinxed because everyone she loves dies, beginning with her mother in childbirth and ending with the love of her life. Bad luck seems to follow her and to keep everyone else safe, she’s shut herself off from the world.

Do you know how many books will be in your series? Do you have titles and possible release dates for any of them?

I don’t know how many Jezebel Jinx novels there will be. I guess that depends on how well the reader’s like them. I do know there will be at least one more, Poison Pens, but I don’t know yet when it will be released.

What is your favorite genre to write? To read? Do you write in other genre?

I actually read and write paranormals. I never expected to write mysteries, but Jezebel and Finn had other ideas. So you will see more of their stories from me, but maybe something a little different too.

What or who inspires or influences your creativity?
Personal experience. The fun part of writing is taking a seemingly insignificant event or detail and spinning it into something you never imagined it could be. When I was younger, a stranger handed me a wilted bouquet of flowers with a get well card. The get well was crossed out and his phone number was in its place. I spun that event into a scene where a bride holding a bouquet of white roses offers one to a young girl, but when the girl pulls out the bud it is black. As she pricks her finger, she remembers that black roses are a symbol of death. This scene was from an entirely different story, but you see what I mean. Anything can be turned into a story if you can see the possibilities.

Great analogy.

Is there any tip/s or advice you’d care to share with a fledgling romance author?

Submit, submit, submit. Don’t let the manuscripts pile up because you’re afraid of rejection. If you get rejected, take a day to mope, then fix what was wrong and send it out again. Learn your craft. Take classes online. Sign up for the muse online writer’s conference. It’s free and it’s all knowledge that will make you a better writer. Just don’t give up on your dreams because you think you aren’t good enough.

What has been the happiest moment in your writing career so far?

When I received the contract for Painted Jezebel, along with a message from Lea telling me how much she liked the story and how it made her laugh. All my fears about not being good enough to be a published author disappeared, especially when my editors made similar comments about scenes or lines they liked. I really love being a muse author.

Publicist Finn Mackenzie has always been lucky, until an ill-fated affair with a vindictive writer leaves him one chance for redemption: a spectacular public appearance by the elusive best-selling romance author, Jezebel Jinx.

Unfortunately, the cute but kooky writer refuses to cooperate. Jezebel believes she’s cursed with bad luck. Riddled with anxieties, she never leaves her home— until the gorgeous, albeit desperate Finn whisks her away to a writer’s conference, against her will.

After the initial shock wears off, Jezebel’s dormant hormones kick into high gear around the hunky Finn.

When his ex turns up murdered and Jezebel is the prime suspect, ill-planned sexcapades are the least of their worries.

Jezebel sat up abruptly, glaring at Finn, who stood beside the bed fully dressed in a button down shirt and khakis. No tie. Judging by that disgustingly cheerful expression, he must be a morning person. She hated morning people. “Just when I started to think you were only a nightmare, here you are.”

“In the flesh.” He hefted her bag onto the bed. “I packed your clothes for you. No need to thank me. I know you were indisposed.”

“My clothes?” Jezebel glanced down at herself in dismay, then back at Finn. “Why am I not wearing any clothes? What did you do?”

“Don’t look at me like I’m the pervert. You’re the one who tore off your clothes and threw yourself at me.” Finn held his hands up in a gesture of innocence.

“You got me drunk!” Jezebel drew the comforter back over her exposed body.

“Don’t worry; your virtue is still intact. I stole a kiss, nothing more and it won’t happen again. I’ve sworn off writers, remember?”

“Well, I’ve sworn off kidnappers,” Jezebel countered satisfied with the look of irritation that crossed his handsome features.
