Hello and welcome, Mal. So glad
you could join us today…I have so many questions about your newest release, Shadow
of Deceit, a romantic suspense…full of…deceit. Before we get started
with the interview about Mal’s story and story-stars, here’s a bit about Mal…
Mal
Olson writes adrenaline-kicked romantic suspense. When her consuming passion
for writing allows time, she enjoys reading, flower gardening, jamming with
friends on the mountain dulcimer, and hiking in a nearby state forest (or in
the mountains somewhere). She has three grown children and one granddaughter
and resides with her own special hero in southeast Wisconsin where she juggles
writing time with her freelance landscape design business.

Your
life sounds interesting, Mal…fun, too. :) Okay…time to hear about your Shadow
of Deceit…
Please
tell us how the idea came to you for Shadow
of Deceit. Please include all the fun details.
Mal:
This book has evolved through so many versions that
it's hard to remember what sparked the idea originally. The characters and
their back stories changed from the earlier versions, only their names, physical
attributes, and the location during the first part of the book remained
constant.
What
drives Tony Crazaniak, motivates, and/or inspires him?
Mal:
Crazaniak is driven by revenge, obsessed to avenge
the deaths of his Delta team because he blames himself for their being led into an ambush.
What’s
Crazaniak's job? What does he do for a living?
Mal:
Tony Crazaniak is an FBI investigator. (ex-Delta
Force)
Give
us some insight into Shannon Riedel. What’s a bit of her back story?
Mal:
A young widow, Shannon lost her husband and her
infant son in a terrible accident several years before the story begins. Still
suffering physically and emotionally, the last thing she's looking for is
romance.
Tell
us what Tony first means to Shannon?
Mal:
Tony is a threat to Shannon. She's afraid he'll
uncover something about her husband that she doesn't want to know.
Who
is Shannon to Tony? Can you give us a bit
about the first time they met each other?
Mal:
They're strangers when they meet—after a creepy hulk-of-a-man
breaks into the office where she works and accuses her dead husband of
swindling him. Sexual tensions explode the minute they meet, which is when
Crazaniak shows up to investigate.
Excellent
tension…yummy.
Why
this location? Anything in particular in real-life that made you select it?
Mal:
As writers, we're always taught to write what we
know, so Shadow of Deceit is set in Milwaukee, which is near where I
live. The cold snowy winters: been there
done that.
Yeah,
I’m in some winter country, too…only this year wasn’t snow as usual. *smile*
Which
scene was your favorite to write? Can you share a little of it?
Mal:
It's the scene after Shannon has a harrowing
encounter in a dark, spooky area downtown Milwaukee. Sexual tension has been building and when
Shannon meets up with Tony back at the car ... well let's just say things get
steamy enough to melt the ice right off the windshield until an unforeseen
interruption cools things off. It's a
highly emotional scene as well, and the interruption adds a bit of humor (for
the reader, not for Tony and Shannon.)
Oh…I
love humor.
What
are you working on now?
Mal:
Another romantic suspense, Too Sexy for His Stetson.
A rookie female deputy sheriff and her
field training officer try to stay focused on business—the white supremacist
gang that's threatening their Idaho mountain community—while fighting the
forbidden attraction that sparks between them.
Throw in the baggage they each are carrying on their shoulders and a
Belgian Malinois retired police dog, and I think you'll find it an engrossing
read. I'm also working on a series revolving around members of a highly covert
team of CIA operatives involved with Homeland Security—edge of the seat
suspense and edge of the heart romance, the Adrenaline
Series.
You
are a busy author, Mal. Your books sound full of compelling suspense and
romance.
Where
can we find you? List all of your links.
Mal:
You'll find links to my book at thewildrosepress.com,
amazon.com
(books), and barnesandnobel.com,
as well as at malolson.com, where you'll
also find my two free short stories, Me
and Brad, a heartwarming romance centered around a special canine, and Danger Zone, a romantic suspense that
introduces one of the characters from Shadow of Deceit.

Good Morning Mal! Hello bn100...great to see you here so early...thanks for stopping by, and you are in the drawing for sure.
Mal - I know interview time should be over...but I have another question (and maybe another one as well)...do you have a special plot recipe in order to create the suspense in your stories?
Hi ladies. Excellent interview. Anyone for coffee?
Oh...yes, me please (mocha latte...does that count). Hi J.D.*waves*
Good morning,
Kay Dee, as far as a recipe for suspense, my stories all seem to start with the two main characters, and once I get to know their most inner fears, I work the suspense plot around that.
Thanks, bm100 for your comments and hope you try my short sotries and the book.
J.D., isn't Kay Dee an excellent interviewer? And I could go for a nice cup of coffee, too. :)
Hi Mal...I like the idea of starting with the main two characters and working from there.
Had my coffee, now I'm on to Earl Grey.
I love the title of your upcoming release - Too Sexy for His Stetson. It made me smile.
I'm still on coffee--won't switch to tea until later this afternoon.
