Jacqueline Paige ~ the Magic Seasons Series, Book 2

Hello Jacqueline and welcome! I’m so interested in your series because I love all things paranormal and magic, and your witches sound like they are in a class all their own to do with the magic of it :0) Jacqueline is celebrating the release of Book 2 in the Magic Seasons series, The Solstice Heat. CongratulationsJ

Before we get started on our interview, here’s a bit about Jacqueline:

Jacqueline Paige is a world class multi-tasker being a mother to five adventurous and unpredictable children, a cafe manager and having a colossal imagination that allows her to step outside of reality into a world of paranormal romance —with just a touch of suspense.

Jacqueline lives in Ontario, Canada and avoids the ever changing weather of the region she lives in by creating other worlds to fall into in her stories of all things paranormal.

Her first book was published in 2009 and since then has published ten.  She is always writing and currently has more than a dozen stories in one stage or another of the writing process.

Okay, Jacqueline…playtime is over, now on to the deep, dark interview (tee-hee) And you thought this was all fun and games…

Please tell us how the idea came to you for The Magic Seasons series. Please include all the fun details.

The basic idea for the series wasn’t too hard to come up with. I had just spent two years attending various pagan festivals where I vended handmade jewelry.  I knew many people before going to them, but once I went to the first one I just had to go back. Such a diverse group of people went to these festivals.  It was truly a wonderful experience to be somewhere that no matter who you were or what your beliefs were, you were accepted.

Can you tell us about the abilities of Steven? How do they help OR hinder?

It was hard to select just one character. They’re all very skilled in their magic or abilities.  I think Steven is the one character everyone underestimated for the most part. He’s an easy going doctor and always seems to be the one in the back ground.  Hidden very well under the jovial exterior is a lot of power.  His magic is earth based and he can control the elements as he wants, which is very helpful in some of the situations they find themselves in.  Unfortunately if his emotions are high his power is a little harder to reign in.

Sort of like you might want to stay clear of Steven on his moody days? LOL

Can you give us titles and a tagline for other books in this series?

The first three books are available, and the fourth will be out later this year.

Book I – From Beltane Magic

Can they survive their pasts to be together?

Book II- The Solstice Heat

Passion and Magic that burns…

Book III – Harvest Dreams

Armed with magic and a plan…

Book IV- Autumn Dance

Can you share anything about the evil/magic/mystery/paranormal or fantasy beings in the story?

The characters in this book series are witches that other than their abilities you would walk past on the street without ever knowing they’re more.  Each character has their own ability.  We have elemental witches that draw on nature for their strength.  Some are better with spells and charms where others are able to tap into the energies around them and pick up on emotions and premonitions.   It’s anything magic in this series.

Sounds like and intriguing brood of witches, Jacqueline. Which scene was your favorite to write? Can you share a little of it?

That’s a tough one. I loved writing all of these. I really enjoyed the scenes where the women were able to keep the guys in their place (there are several of these)

Here is one from the second book, The Solstice Heat.

Chris came out of his library to see the three men sitting in his living room.  He paused and looked around.  “Did I forget about a meeting?”  Where were the women?  “Where is everyone else?”

Dade leaned forward and rested his elbows on his legs.  “We were instructed they were coming here after work and they have been locked in your little magic broom closet for the last hour.”

          Chris raised his eyebrows.  “Doing?”

Owen lifted his hands.  “Won’t say.”

Steven slumped down, wishing for a nap.  “They’re not too pleased being driven to and from work.”

“I see.”  Chris turned and started down the hall.  “Let’s see what they’re up to.”

The men got up and followed him.

He tried the doorknob to find it locked.  “Kase, unlock the door.”

“Soon.” She called to him through the door.

He stood there glaring at the door.  They’d locked him out of his own room in his own home!  We’ll see about this.  He stepped back and slapped an invisible command at the door.

Sparks flew off it and the door remained closed.  “What the…”

Dade grinned.  “Quite the little witch you have there, Larkin.”

Steven whistled out a breath.  “Just how much trouble can they get into with all your stuff in there?”

Chris still scowled at the door while he answered, “A lot!”  He tapped the door with his hand.  “Kassandra unlock the door.”

A gentle breeze blew over all four of them.

“That would be a polite no,” Dade said quietly.

“Like hell, I’ll be locked out of my own temple room.” Chris hissed.  Stepping back he stared at the door, the handle shook.  When he thought it was going to open it started to pour rain on the four of them.  He waved a hand to stop it and looked at the men beside him.  Dade’s long hair was soaked and the expression on his face was similar to how he himself was feeling about the whole thing.

“And that would be a mind your own business,” Owen said sticking his hands in his pockets.

Chris looked at Steven.  “You have any ideas?”

Steven shook his head trying to get the water to stop dripping in his face then took a step away from the door.  “Oh no. I’m plenty happy enough to wait until it opens on its own.  You might like lighting striking you, but I’m not too open to trying that.”

Chris shook his head.  “Are you all afraid of them?”

Dade nodded.  “I’ve seen what each one can do alone – especially your little innocent there my friend; the four of them together scare the hell out of me.”

Chris sighed and looked back at the door.  “Kasey?”

“Yes Christopher?”  Her voice came through the door again.

“You’re making me angry and I don’t want to do something I’ve promised you I wouldn’t.”

A wind breeze ruffled his hair.  “I know you won’t Chris.  Now go away I’m trying to concentrate here.”

His jaw dropped.  Sighing he looked at the others. “Beer?”  They nodded and followed him down the hallway.

“Seems you’re a bit afraid of their wrath, too, councilor,” Dade mumbled behind him.

“Shut up.”  Chris growled and walked into the kitchen.

I love your excerpt…made me laugh at the vulnerable circumstances the men found themselves in. Sweet :0)

Please share anything else about this story you’d like ~ maybe a difficult scene or character ~ someone or something not cooperating…

When I started this series it was not completely planned, actually it was supposed to be one story.  Obviously the characters didn’t co-operate at all in that area.  I also had a really big surprise when I was writing the first one and working on one of the earlier scenes that was meant to bring the hesitant heroine and hero a little closer together … they were out walking on a typical spring day that was drizzling with rain and talking … out of nowhere they stumbled on two bodies.

And then the series took on a whole new meaning and direction.

I totally get what you mean about uncooperative story-stars. LOL Yes, they do have a mind of their own, don’t they.

What are you working on now?

There’s a lot…

On one of my publishers’ desk I have the first in my Animal Trilogy – Animal Heart. This is my first venture into the shifter theme and I’m very excited with the great feedback on it.  They also have another first for me, After the Silence – The Beginning, which is a paranormal/survivalist mix and was very interesting to work on.

On my own desk in one stage or another of writing/proofing I have the third book for the Hidden Senses Trilogy – Inner Reflections, Book I in a new witch Trilogy, Ancestor’s Enchantment Trilogy – The Witch Within and I am trying my hand at a New Adult/YA , The Alterealm chronicles – The Cross Over Huntress.

The Solstice Heat –

Book II in the Magic Seasons series

By Jacqueline Paige

Passion and magic that burns

Kasey is a woman that exudes energy and brightness; she is as equally passionate when angry as she is when she’s happy. The energy she carries from life comes through in all her magical workings with spells and stones, giving them great magical strength. She is a dreamer and often wishes she could re-write her own story so that she was charming and sophisticated enough to be with a certain wealthy male lawyer she wants more than anything else.

Chris is a force of strength and experience that is carefully hidden behind the easy mannerism he has adapted so carefully.  There is nothing he cannot do where magic is concerned and he has tried all manner of things, whether right or wrong.  His fortune has left him wanting for nothing else in life, except the one thing money can’t buy him, the woman he feels too unclean to approach.

Separated by two different life styles yet their passion and magic ignite sparks hotter than the Solstice heat.

Can they work out a way to be together as they try to stop a killer from striking again?

Hi Jacqueline - coffee is on, so come on in and let's celebrate book 2 of your Magic Seasons series, The Solstice Heat.

Your witches intrigue me and your excerpt here...well, I loved it :0)

Tell us a bit about the research you did for this series...what was the most important area of witchcraft did you need to research?

Hi Key Dee!

Sorry it took me forever to get here. There was an emergency at work and I just finally got out of there. Long day!

Thanks again for having me here today.

As far as research goes, I didn't study just one spiritual path. There were so many different beliefs in the people I met that I observed all of them for many months and then started reading just about anything I could on all the various groups. All I can say is I could study for a hundred years and still not know all of it.

So many diverse beliefs out there that are simply amazing to learn about. With the witchcraft or wiccan area I mostly concentrated on the elements and stones.

The only problem with delving into any aspect is each time you are intrigued to look even further into this area or another and it could turn into a full time study for the rest of your life.

I hear you, Jacqueline, on studying the different belief systems ~ I've done a lot of research on it myself for many years...and am still learning new things that resonate with me.

Elements and stones sound like amazing energies for your witches:)

Thank you again for being a featured guest author on my site. I loved learning about your work.
